What translation is right for you?

Word for Word

If you are looking for a literal translation (my personal fav) then the following would be the best translation for you: NASB, ESV, KJV, NKJV, and TRB.

Meaning for Meaning

If you are looking for the closest natural equivalence then the best translation for you to try out would be the GW, also known as God's Word.

Thought for Thought

If you are looking for a readable version of the Bible (younger readers), one that is easier to understand, I recommend: CSB, NIV, and NLT translations.

Paraphrasing

If you are looking for a retelling of the Bible from someone else's point of view then I would recommend: NIRV, CEV, and MSG translations.

When developing your relationship with God, you must first understand that the key is you reading and understanding the Bible.  If you read and learn the Bible yourself then you cannot be deceived because you have read the truth yourself.  Many people are confused about God because of what they see and hear through mainstream media.  Start being a fact checker instead of a gullible believer of just anything.

A few questions to ask yourself when trying to find the right Bible:

  • Have I ever attempted to read and learn the Bible?
  • Did I understand what I was reading?
  • Do I want to know the actual words of the Bible, or do I just want to know a summary of what it means?
  • Do I want an older or newer reading style?

These are a couple of things that you can ask yourself to figure out which Bible is best for you.  The worst thing you could do to start this journey would be to read a Bible that you cannot understand or comprehend.

Check out the PowerPoint below to help you decide which translation would be best for you on your journey to the way, the truth, and the life.

I prefer...

I prefer the KJV, the King James Version personally.  It is like reading Shakespeare.  It is absolutely beautiful.  However, everyone cannot understand Shakespeare, and when you do not understand or comprehend what you are reading, then that is a problem.
